Monroe Community Hospital (MCH) is pleased to announce the appointment of Catie Kehoe, RN, as its new Director of Nursing, following an exhaustive search to fill the role. Catie will succeed Kristen Schulmerich, who will retire next spring after more than 30 years of dedicated service to the local community.

“We are delighted to have Catie on board as MCH’s next Director of Nursing,” said Alyssa Tallo, Executive Health Director at MCH. “As part of a thoughtful succession plan, she has already begun working with us—meeting with staff and Kristen, and learning MCH’s operations—to ensure a seamless transition.”

Kehoe joins the 18th largest skilled nursing facility in the country and largest in the Finger Lakes in New York State, with 566 licensed beds and expertise in long-term, rehabilitation, pediatric, palliative and hospice, ventilatory and memory care.

She brings nearly 20 years of experience across acute, hospice, and long-term care settings and holds an Associate Degree in Nursing from Monroe Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from SUNY Geneseo, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Rochester.

“I’m thrilled to be joining MCH and contributing to a team that truly prioritizes compassionate care for our residents,” said Kehoe. “I enjoy the complex problem-solving in long-term care, where every day is different, and critical thinking is essential, which keeps me engaged and constantly learning.”

Schulmerich has been a transformative leader at MCH, guiding the hospital through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining low infection rates and high vaccination coverage. Her leadership, dedication to mentoring staff, and commitment to compassionate care have earned her national recognition.

“It’s been a privilege to serve alongside this exceptional team,” Schulmerich said. “Catie’s commitment to residents and her deep understanding of MCH make her the perfect person to carry our mission forward.”
