MCH Residents Join Global Art Showcase
Several Monroe Community Hospital residents joined thousands of artists from Rochester and around the world by contributing original artwork to Rochester Contemporary Art Center's annual 6x6 exhibition and fundraiser.
One of RoCo's signature events, 6x6 invites artists of all ages and abilities to create original 6-by-6-inch works of art. Every piece is displayed anonymously and sold for $20, with proceeds supporting the art center's year-round exhibitions and community arts programs. This year's exhibition featured artwork from artists representing 45 states and 14 countries.
The MCH entries were made possible through a collaboration between the MCH Foundation and staff from Resident Programs and Volunteer Services, who accompanied several residents to the exhibition in July.
The highlight came when resident Janice Copeland's artwork was purchased during the exhibition. Her whimsical piece featured dinosaurs expressing a range of emotions, from smiling and grinning to looking frustrated, an imaginative concept that quickly caught a buyer's attention.
"I was so happy," Janice said after learning her artwork had sold. "The idea that somebody liked it so much they bought it — that's all that matters."
Residents also visited the exhibition to see their artwork professionally displayed in the gallery, creating a memorable experience that celebrated creativity, self-expression and community connection.
Participating residents included Genny Mensing, Janice Copeland, Richard Blum, Charlie LaVoie, Dan Updike, Claire Laub, John Clay, Margaret Strano and Paul Votypka.
