The MCH Auxiliary's mission is to enhance the quality of life of MCH residents through service, fundraising and programs. Its Board includes community volunteers and hospital representatives. For information, call 585-760-6151.

Formed in 1966 under the direction of Executive Health Administrator DeForest T. Whipple, the MCH Auxiliary welcomed Clara French Russell as its first president and later became one of the first hospital auxiliaries in the United State to include men.   Credit goes to Clara for making the MCH Auxiliary the first hospital auxiliary in the United States to include men in a traditionally women's organization.   In 1967, as the first Auxiliary By-Laws were being approved, the name of the facility changed from "Monroe County Home and Infirmary" to "Monroe Community Hospital for the Care of the Chronically Ill."   In 1968, William Short became the second Auxiliary President and Dr. T. Franklin Williams was appointed Medical Director of the Hospital. The Auxiliary joined HANYS, the Hospital Association of New York. In 1969, the Auxiliary added a Board of Directors and established the Resident Library. The Thrift Shop debuted as clothing consignment, earning $80 its first day. The Tapestry Gift Shop, operated by the MCH Auxiliary, offers a convenient and welcoming shopping experience for residents, staff, and visitors. Located on the first floor of the Faith Building, and open from 11:30 a.m.- 3:30 pm, the shop features a wide selection of items including trendy clothing, accessories, jewelry, greeting cards, souvenir trinkets, and everyday essentials such as snacks and beverages. Originally opened in 1973, Tapestry Gift Shop continues to be a staple at MCH, combining convenience, comfort, and a touch of style in one central location. Proceeds from the gift shop directly support programs and activities to enhance the lives of MCH residents.

The Thrift Shop, operated by the MCH Auxiliary, has been a valued part of the community since opening in 1969.   Located on the first floor of the Hope Building and open Monday – Friday from 11:30 am – 3:30 pm, the shop offers a curated selection of gently used clothing, accessories, and household items at affordable prices.   Proceeds from the Thrift Shop support programs and activities that enhance the lives of MCH residents. This unique program is a partnership between the MCH Social Work Department and the MCH Auxiliary giving residents the opportunity to volunteer and receive an incentive reward for completing assigned tasks within the facility. Work assignments include: Distributing mail Delivering newspapers and magazines Greenhouse maintenance Calling bingo numbers Transporting documents to the clinic Assisting in the resident game room

The MCH Auxiliary has raised more than $1.6 million over its first 60 years to advance the well-being and quality of life for residents of MCH. Since 2005, 100% of donations to the MCH Auxiliary have been used to fund resident projects and special needs.
