Michelle, a resident of MCH, first attended Genesee Valley Rotary Camp (GVRC) approximately 50 years ago—and she’s been part of its heart and soul ever since. Known for self-advocacy, perseverance, determination and community service involvement, Michelle has left a lasting impact on generations of campers and staff. She represents the very best of what GVRC stands for: friendship, inclusion, and joyful connection.
GVRC is a one-week summer camp in Pike, Wyoming County, about an hour southeast or Rochester, for young people (ages 8–21) with various disabilities. A not-for-profit organization incorporated in 1963, GVRC has served children and young adults for over 60 years by providing a safe and supportive environment where campers can build confidence, community, and lasting memories.
In a special visit to MCH in August, longtime GVRC members Michael and Susan Houg presented Michelle with the award. Surrounded by staff and friends, Michelle accepted the honor with a sparkle that only she can bring.
From 2025 forward, the Michelle Oulton Award will be presented annually to former GVRC campers embodying the spirit Michelle brought to camp. Naming the award after her not only celebrates her extraordinary legacy but ensures her influence continues to inspire new generations of GVRC campers.
Congratulations, Michelle! You are and always will be a true GVRC legend.
