MCH Names Next Director of Nursing

Monroe Community Hospital (MCH) has named Donna Wang as its next director of nursing, elevating an experienced leader to guide nursing services and succeed Kristen Schulmerich, who is retiring after 31 years with the organization.

Wang assumed her new role March 16, with Schulmerich remaining through June to support a smooth leadership transition.

“Donna has consistently demonstrated strong clinical leadership, sound judgment, and a deep commitment to our residents and staff,” said Alyssa Tallo, Executive Health Director. “Her experience and steady approach make her the right choice to lead our nursing team forward. Also, we are grateful to Kristen for her 31 years of dedicated service and for helping ensure a seamless transition.”

Wang brings extensive clinical experience, including work in obstetrics, emergency care, home care, and long-term care. She holds a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix, has a strong focus on geriatric care and was an assistant director of nursing at MCH prior to her current role.

“With Kristen’s support, my priority is to ensure a smooth transition while strengthening relationships across our teams,” Wang said. “We’ve already begun this work, and I’m focused on growing our team to meet the needs of our residents and community.”

MCH is one of the largest skilled nursing facilities in the country with around-the-clock long-term care, rehabilitation services, pediatric and young adult care, palliative and hospice care, memory and ventilator care, and other specialized services. The hospital is also home to an innovative Simulation Center, giving staff interactive learning opportunities.

Schulmerich has guided MCH through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining low infection rates and high vaccination coverage. Her leadership and dedication to mentoring staff have earned her national recognition.

“It’s been a privilege to serve our community for all these years,” Schulmerich said. “I know Donna’s commitment and connection to our residents will have a lasting impact and guide MCH forward.”
