Monroe Community Hospital is proud to announce that Nicole Ikewood, cardiopulmonary manager, and Angela Thomas, senior CNA, have been named 2026 Health Care Heroes by the Rochester Business Journal. The program honors individuals and organizations making a significant impact on health care quality in the Greater Rochester area.

"They are true champions of MCH," said Alyssa Tallo, executive health director. "Their dedication and commitment are unmatched, and we could not ask for more than what they do every day."
Ikewood and Thomas were recognized during a reception at MCH with Monroe County Executive Adam Bello and hospital staff. Bello presented each honoree with a special certificate from the county.
"Thank you for being such wonderful ambassadors for Monroe Community Hospital and an inspiration to our staff," Bello said during the reception. "Thank you to everyone at MCH for the work you do to support residents and each other. It is difficult work, but it is necessary and critical."
Ikewood received the Management Award, which recognizes leaders who demonstrate measurable positive contributions to their organizations. Known for her compassion, dedication, and positive attitude, she has had a profound impact on both staff and residents.

She plays a key role in Camp Friendship, a weeklong summer program for pediatric residents, ensuring all participants, including ventilated patients, can fully participate. Also, Ikewood leads the cardiopulmonary team with clinical excellence, mentors staff, and fosters a collaborative, supportive work environment.
Thomas was recognized in the Health Care Staff category, which honors individuals whose performance earns high marks from peers and supervisors.

On the palliative care unit, she is known for her empathetic, patient-centered care and has earned the nickname “Sunshine” from residents. Her optimism, reliability, and dedication positively influence colleagues and residents alike, making her a trusted professional and role model in long-term care.
The 2026 Health Care Heroes program celebrates 39 individuals and organizations across multiple categories, including Advanced Practice Provider, Health Care Innovation, Nurse, and Volunteer. Honorees will be recognized at a breakfast ceremony on March 10 at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
“The 2026 Health Care Heroes are exemplary and provide exceptional care to those in need,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, managing director of BridgeTower Media/Rochester Business Journal. “They are leaders and innovators who serve their communities selflessly and mentor others.”
