Monroe Community Hospital (MCH) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mary McDowell as its new Director of Resident Programs.
With more than 30 years of experience in therapeutic recreation and healthcare, Mary brings a diverse background—having worked in both Florida and New York—and an innovative vision to further enhance the resident experience at MCH.
“MCH’s strong reputation and commitment to innovation made it the perfect next step in my career,” McDowell said. “My vision is to build upon MCH’s already dynamic team by integrating a wide range of community partnerships—such as outreach to local schools and arts organizations—to create enriching, engaging experiences for our residents.”
McDowell earned her degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Georgia Southern University and has built a career spanning several specialized areas—from head injury rehabilitation and behavioral care to pediatric traumatic brain injuries and adult day services.
Throughout her career, she has held supervisory roles in both Florida and New York, demonstrating a strong ability to lead dynamic teams and implement creative, community-driven programs.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, McDowell is an active volunteer, having participated in multiple Honor Flight trips as a crew member, as well as working with the Girl Scouts and Wickham Farms.
She now leads a team responsible for developing and executing hundreds of programs, including live music, art and dance events along with unit-specific events, each month for the residents of MCH.
“I’m thrilled to join a team that encourages creative solutions and allows me to test new limits,” she said.
