New York State has declared influenza season, and Monroe Community Hospital (MCH) is reminding staff, residents, families and visitors to take precautions to help prevent the spread of illness.

MCH employees who have not received a flu vaccination are required to wear a mask that fully covers their nose and mouth in all resident care areas. It is recommended for all visitors and all other guests. Employees receiving a flu shot from their physician should bring proof to Employee Health for a sticker.

Also, everyone can help protect residents, employees and visitors by following these infection prevention practices:

  • Practice frequent hand hygiene by washing hands or using hand sanitizer.

  • Cover coughs and sneezes and avoid spreading respiratory droplets.

  • Follow posted isolation signs and instructions when entering resident care areas.

  • Clean and disinfect shared equipment after use.

  • Monitor for symptoms of respiratory illness and follow appropriate health guidance if symptoms develop.

Influenza can pose serious health risks, particularly for individuals with complex medical conditions. Taking these precautions helps maintain a safe and healthy environment for everyone at MCH.

Thank you for helping protect our residents, staff, families and visitors.
