Monroe Community Hospital (MCH) recently held its annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, honoring the remarkable individuals who dedicate their time and talents to enhancing the lives of residents and supporting staff.
The event, attended by volunteers, staff, and leadership, celebrated a spirit of service and recognized the 78 volunteers who contributed nearly 11,000 hours across 18 roles in 2024. These roles included resident transportation, gift shop operations, support for recreational and pastoral programs, and providing meaningful companionship.
“Every time someone new joins us—whether a resident or a volunteer—our world expands,” said Laurie MacFarlane, Supervisor of Volunteers, Pastoral Care, and Customer Service at MCH. “You bring light to dark spaces and fresh air to those who haven’t felt a breeze in a long time. We need the difference that you create. People all over the building see that difference and appreciate it.”
Special recognition was given to several retiring volunteers for their long-standing commitment and service. Honorees included Dolores Davis, who served for 22 years; Sister Judy Whelan, with 21 years of service; and Joan Law-Arnold, who contributed 12 years to the organization.
“You are the smiling faces that brighten our halls,” said Alyssa Tallo, Executive Health Director of MCH. “You remind us that community is not only something we serve—it is something we build together. You put the 'heart' in our mantra. We are so grateful to have you as part of the MCH family.”
As part of the celebration, nearly 100 handwritten notes of appreciation from staff were shared with the volunteers. The luncheon, catered by MCH Food Services, also featured a raffle as a gesture of thanks.
“Your time, your energy, and your care are gifts not just to Monroe Community Hospital, but to every person who walks through our doors,” MacFarlane told the group.
