Monroe County Executive Adam Bello joined MCH residents and staff to celebrate the opening of a new enclosed courtyard and family pavilion during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 1.
The outdoor space was designed to provide residents with a safe and welcoming environment to enjoy the outdoors, soak in natural light, and gather with family and friends — all contributing to enhancing the quality of life for residents at MCH.
“It’s spaces like these that I really love,” Bello said. “Spaces that MCH residents can enjoy with visitors and, of course, with other residents who live here. Thank you to the Facilities team for really going above and beyond with the beautiful plantings out here and creating this wonderful courtyard space that all who come out can enjoy.”
Located in the heart of MCH's campus, the newly landscaped courtyard features a large outdoor pavilion, secure gate access, a concrete patio and walkways, seating areas, and other enhancements. The project was made possible through a collaboration between MCH’s Facilities Department, Schuler-Hass Electric, C.P. Ward, CNS, and other partners.
“This beautiful space is a breath of fresh air for our residents,” said Alyssa Tallo, MCH Executive Health Director. “Its thoughtful design promotes wellness, encourage socialization, and creates joyful moments for MCH residents, families, and friends.”
MCH residents are excited about the new space, which will be open from May 1 through November, depending on weather conditions."
“Having this beautiful courtyard and the pavilion means we can enjoy the sunshine, listen to the birds, and still feel safe and comfortable,” said Nicole Goode, MCH Resident Council President. “I’m so looking forward to spending more time out here.”
“It’s giving residents more space, a little more quiet, and a place to enjoy the outdoors — a space where you can just be out there on a nice day, maybe with your family or friends,” said Daijon Moon, a resident.
“Monroe Community Hospital does a lot for the people here, and with the courtyard I think we’ll see residents and families giving back some love to the hospital for it,” said Mary Huether, a resident. “You have nature. You have people. You have a space people can escape to for a little while. It’s a great idea.”
“It's a place where you can go with your family and have a little picnic — to get out, get some fresh air, and take a walk,” said Marilyn Lopez, a resident.
The new courtyard reflects MCH’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the resident experience and creating a community where residents, families, and staff feel connected and supported.
