Renovations Complete on Faith 6

A state-of-the-art renovation has transformed the sixth floor of the Faith Building into a modern training facility for MCH’s Nurse Aide Training Program, launched last year to help individuals interested in becoming Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) kick-start their careers.

The six-week training program offers students paid training, group activities, and real-life learning experiences led by seasoned instructors hand-picked by MCH. These instructors help hundreds of students annually earn their CNA certification in a modern, well-equipped training space.

The renovation, spearheaded by MCH’s Facilities Department and supported by a county grant with American Rescue Plan funds, has created multiple instructional spaces for the program, along with office, meeting, and storage areas. Additional upgrades include, non-slip floors were installed, upgrades were made to the fire suppression systems, and new lighting fixtures were added.

A key feature of makeover included the transformation of the approximately 2,100-square-foot Fireside Lounge, a popular multipurpose meeting area used by the Nurse Aide Training Program. The lounge was updated with natural wood finishes, Earth tones, new furniture and other amenities.

Originally dedicated in 2000 to Dr. T. Franklin Williams, the lounge now has a more open feel due to a new ceiling design that brings in more natural light while highlighting the panoramic views of the Rochester area and the Erie Canal.

“People are going to be really excited when they see this space,” said Rob Cammilleri, Director of Facilities and Grounds. “It’s one of the prettiest areas in the whole building. It’s a space that will be used by many people.”

The updated space includes a new kitchen, updated countertops and cabinets, and can host family and staff events, as well as serve as a space for demonstrating cooking techniques.

A lounge area features a 65-inch TV and a remote-controlled electric fireplace, perfect for setting the mood for any occasion. New lighting, flooring, furniture, and improvements to fire control systems were also installed.

All of the work, including carpentry, electrical, flooring, masonry, mechanical, and painting, was completed by a team of about 10 MCH employees. The recently completed work also included new classrooms with upgraded equipment to simulate real-world conditions for those in the Nurse aide Training Program looking to become a CAN.

“We’re proud of what we’ve done here,” Cammilleri said. “These projects are going to have a huge impact and will be used by many people.
