MCH celebrated National Skilled Nursing Home Week with a poetry contest that showcased the voices, memories, and creativity of our community. The event invited participants to reflect on themes of family, community, hope, and personal strength through original works of poetry.

The collection, now on display in the art gallery, features a wide range of emotional and expressive entries, including heartfelt tributes such as Mom, My Dear Mother, and May is Hope, as well as reflective pieces like From Spring to Summer and A Haiku for My Community.

Each poem offered a unique perspective, blending personal experience with imagination and resilience. The contest also highlighted the power of storytelling in fostering connection and self-expression within the MCH community.

In a close vote, Gena Korn’s poem entitled Personal Growth received the most votes. Her powerful piece, centered on perseverance and self-determination, resonated deeply with readers for its message of resilience captured in the refrain, “I’ll grow anyway.”

The event underscored the importance of creative outlets in enriching resident life and celebrating individual voices at MCH.

Personal Growth

There isn't a family tree.

No roots here to anchor me.

But I'll grow anyway.

No Sunlight falls on my face.

Just darkness in this stoic place.

But Ill grow anyway.

Not tended by a gentle hand.

Or planted in some fertile land.

But I'll grow anyway.

I'm growing anyway.

I'll claw myself out from the earth.

Prove there's more than what I'm worth.

And I'll grow anyway.

Erased and desiccated.

I'll climb to get elevated.

And I'll grow anyway.

My petals will regain their plume.

And dazzle despite the gloom.

And I'll grow anyway.

I'll stretch up ’til I feel some light.

The warmth will offer a respite.

And I’ll grow anyway.

Ill unfurl my tired leaves.

And take what sunlight is received.

And I'll grow anyway.

I know the world gave me a tomb.

But I'll find the sky and manage to bloom.

I know I'll grow anyway.

..... So just watch me grow anyway.
